Project Type: Research & Policy Tech Initiative
This project was developed in response to the alarming rise in cyber threats targeting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. While SMEs form the backbone of the Nigerian economy, most lack dedicated IT teams, security tools, or awareness about the evolving threat landscape.
"Protecting SME Networks in Nigeria" is a strategic initiative that combines research, field studies, and practical intervention to understand the unique cybersecurity risks SMEs face and deliver tailored, scalable solutions that are both affordable and effective. This initiative is part of a broader effort to digitally empower underserved businesses in Africa.
Wireshark, OSSIM, Python, Linux, VirtualBox, low-end routers, and documentation platforms (Google Docs, Notion) for internal knowledge sharing.
Several businesses participating in the pilot phase reported reduced incidents of phishing, better password hygiene, and more confidence in managing their systems. The project is now being considered for scaling across local government-backed SME clusters.
